Maddy bought this balloon for Marianne for her birthday from Akers, the store where she works. She paid for it ahead of time and took Marianne to the store on Feb 14th to pick it out. Since it was Valentine's day, there were many balloons ordered so most of the cieling was filled with balloons for her to choose. Barry was with them since Maddy isn't old enough to drive on her own. I asked Marianne when they got home if Maddy got her a balloon for her birthday and she said "No, Daddy did. I pointed out which one I wanted and daddy reached up and grabbed it." I explained to her that is was really a present from her sister. Marianne loved her balloon and carried it on her wrist for days. Surprisingly it didn't pop, but she did go outside onto the back deck when it wasn't properly secured on her wrist and it blew away. We watched it float over the house, then we ran though the house and out the front door to watch it get tiny and tiny in the sky. It broke Marianne's heart to loose her precious balloon. Through tears and sobs she asked me if we could get a map and follow her balloon to go get it. I wished we could, but even google earth isn't sophisticated enough for that.
We had the idea to take the kids swimming, and after pricing it out decided that taking our family to the indoor pool for a day was so expensive, it wasn't much more expensive to spend a night at a hotel with a pool. So last weekend we drove to Spokane and checked in at 3pm. We swam for a few hours, on Friday. Saturday morning we swam, ate continental breakfast, enjoyed the weight room/tv, and went swimming some more.
Benjamin did the most swimming. He swam four different times. The kids liked the fact that they could come and go between the hot tub and the pool. This is what the hot tub looked like.
We drove up to Colville (25 mi north) twice this week. We (Maddy) drove up on Wednesday evening for a meeting of high school students who want to take advantage of the Running Start program which allows high school juniors and seniors to take classes at the community college and get dual credit. Maddy wants to start doing that next year. On Thursday night we got tickets from Maddy's friend Meredith Kirry to watch the play her family will be performing in this month. The play was the secret garden and the whole Kirry family was involved in different characters (Dad, Mom, 4 kids ages 6-15). The opening night of the play was friday, but the tickets for Thurs. were for "family and friends" night. The play was wonderful and it was nice to support Maddy's friend.
